The Grande Punto (due in the UK early 2006) has won the 2005 Golden Steering Wheel , Germany’s most prestigious prize, which is awarded by a jury of car experts, celebrities from the entertainment world and racing drivers.

Organised by the weekly magazine Bild am Sonntag, the prize is now in its thirtieth year, and every year it awards a model in each of four different categories. The Grande Punto won the trophy for the Compact category, ahead of the Volkswagen Fox, Renault Clio, Toyota Yaris and Peugeot 1007.

The Golden Steering Wheel prize-giving ceremony was held on November the 11th, in the beautiful city of Berlin, with over 450 guests from the worlds of German industry, trade, culture, politics and sport. Werner H. Frey, Managing Director Fiat Auto AG, collected the trophy and commented: “Winning the ‘Golden Steering Wheel’ fills us with pride and confidence, and opens an important new chapter in the history of the success of the Grande Punto and the Fiat brand.”
